Right people, right seats. Southern Energy Management is filled with wonderful people who are passionate about what they do and how it gets done. For some people who are just looking to get by with a standard 9-5, this might not be a great fit. But for others who are looking for a special place where people are engaged and excited with their work, and who are always seeking ways to create impactful solutions, I would definitely recommend Southern Energy as a great place to work.

I value the work we do (we change and improve the way people make and use energy!) and how we do it. We are a certified B Corporation and spend a lot of time and money attracting and supporting people who share the company core values and I truly appreciate that commitment. It means that I am surrounded by folks that also share and thrive in those values, as well as are provided with lots of opportunities to improve ourselves both professionally and personally. I know working here makes me a better person, and that carries itself past my professional life and literally makes the world a better place. We prove that working on your people not only makes a business successful, but also resilient.

Our co-owner formed a leadership cohort that I got to participate in, enrolling 8-11 people at a time in leadership training that meets once a month with a focus on developing leadership skills and managing work and life. This was provided free of charge and was so successful, we are doing it again this year and expanding the opportunity to more team members. This was offered to us free of charge and during working hours, and included one-on-one coaching sessions.

I have achieved personal goals that have helped me better understand my team's role within the organization. I have developed more skills and knowledge in my field, while also keeping up with the changes and challenges faced within the company. My team was able to knock down a backlog of work and support another when needed.

The most important part of my professional development definitely lies in the training and experience I have gained. Southern Energy appears to invest a lot in new employees because they want to keep people around. I've been able to work towards several certification programs that would otherwise be out of reach for me as an individual. I feel like I've also grown a lot as a person. I've become better at communicating with strangers which means a lot to me. I have always struggled with talking to others and still do, but I have become educated enough in this field and empowered by the work that I do to be more confident in my actions and words.
